Judika’s Witching Weekend at The Holy Rose in Raleigh, NC
Trick or treat? Trick AND treat!
Judika is returning to Raleigh’s The Holy Rose for a weekend in the witching month of October. Two classes are being offered (in addition to some other treats!) — one class focuses on how to navigate the tricks of the spirit world; while the other focuses on the joyous aspects of spirit/human interactions.
Saturday afternoon, 15 October 3:00 pm: Meet and Greet
The weekend opens with a free meet-and-greet. Come in, say “hi” to Judika. Books may be purchased and signed including Judika’s new publications, The Big Book of Practical Spells and— hot off the presses! — The Weiser Book of the Fantastic and Forgotten.
Saturday evening, 15 October 6:00-8:00 pm: Restless Spirits of the Dead
As we approach the night of October 31st (Samhain or Halloween), the veil between the realms of the living and the dead grows ever more sheer. Although dead souls and ghosts may certainly haunt the living at any time, this thinning of the veil heralds the beginning of the Season of Ghosts. Revenant ancestors may be greeted enthusiastically, however, not all ghostly visitations are welcome. This is the time of year when the restless, hungry dead find their ways into the world of the living, sometimes to play tricks, sometimes to cause harm, and sometime to vampirize our life forces.
Warning: prepare to shiver—- and laugh! Ghost stories will be told! If you’d like to discuss your own ghost troubles, this class is the perfect opportunity to receive some practical guidance.
Join Judika Illes, author of Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells and Encyclopedia of Spirits for a workshop devoted to the Restless Spirits of the Dead:
- Who are they?
- Why can’t these ghosts rest in peace?
- How can we appease or banish them?
- How can we protect ourselves from them?
- What can be done to prevent formation of restless spirits of the dead?
Sunday afternoon, 16 October 3:00 pm-5:00 pm, 16 October

Sunday evening, 16 October 5:00 pm-8:00 pm, Spells and Spirits of Samhain
In October, the sheer veil separating the realm of the living from those of the spirits and the dead becomes even thinner, enabling beings to pass between these worlds with ease and to communicate with one another. This veil is at its most sheer on November Eve, the last night of October, also known as All Hallows Eve, Hallowe’en, and Samhain.
Whatever your personal goals or spiritual tradition, Samhain is the optimum night for spell-casting. It is the best time to communicate with your ancestors and other departed loved ones or to make contact with spirits of all kinds. Join Judika Illes, the author of The Encyclopedia of Spirits and The Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, in a workshop where we explore the spirits, spells, and rituals most closely associated with this time—including some spells that can only be cast on this special night.
No previous experience is necessary: this workshop is suitable for all levels. We will explore different magical techniques in depth and detail including candle magic, crossroads spells, spiritual petition, and spirit boards. Learn to maximize your own magic powers so that you are ready to fulfill your desires on Samhain. Spirits under discussion will include Hekate, Odin, and numerous deities associated with witchcraft and magic.
Please contact The Holy Rose directly for reservations and information.
